Unlike traditional fasting (where you just drink water or herbal tea) a bone broth cleanse provides your body with essential nutrients, vitamins and minerals, and antioxidants which provide your body with energy and hydration throughout the day.

A bone broth cleanse is superior to a juice cleanse because it doesn’t spike your blood sugar which can lead to energy crashes and hunger pangs. Because bone broth is packed with protein, it controls your hunger and therefore you feel less fatigued and more focused.

    For 6 days, replace 2 meals a day with 2 cartons of bone broth. On day 7 eat a normal healthy diet.

    Bone broth is the delicious savoury liquid obtained by simmering meaty joints and bones in water for up to 24 hours. It’s low calorie, low fat, but packed with protein, collagen and amino acids.

  • 2. How to Drink

    Consume one carton in the morning, and one in the middle of the day, gently warmed in a pan.

    Bone broth is delicious and filling on its own, but you can add healthy fats (ghee, coconut oil), and natural flavourings (fresh ginger, turmeric).

    Have one balanced nutritious evening meal e.g. lean proteins, root vegetables, leafy greens.

    Avoid alcohol,  sugar, grains and processed foods. If in doubt about what to eat, we recommend you follow a paleo diet (you can find healthy recipes on our website).

  • Bone broth is brilliant. It’s low in calories but it packs a healthy amount of protein, meaning it will work to both curb your appetite and increase your lean muscle mass. Good amounts of lean muscle mass help your body burn calories even when resting which is even better.

What is intermittent fasting with bone broth?

Strictly speaking, intermittent fasting means not having any calories for a period of time in the day, (usually 16 hours) and then having an 8 hour window where you eat.

The bone broth cleanse is a modified form of intermittent fasting where you can drink bone broth during the normal period of fasting, but still eat your food within a specific period of time. 

What else can I drink other than bone broth?

Water and herbal teas are recommended.  You can drink tea or coffee without milk or milk alternatives, but if you want to detox your body of caffeine, then avoid these drinks.  Alcohol and fizzy drinks are not permitted!

Where can I get ideas for recipes for my healthy evening meal?

We have lots of delicious recipes on our website (although not all of them are paleo).  But there are plenty of ideas on the internet, and the BBC website has a huge bank of ideas!

Will I be hungry?

Bone broth is packed full of essential nutrients (protein, collagen, amino acids, vitamins & minerals), so your body will not feel deprived.  Protein is satiating, meaning it keeps you feeling full (unlike a juice cleanse, which spikes your blood sugar and then leads to a ‘crash’ afterwards).  Also, bone broth is delicious!  Take Stock has an award-winning flavour including a Great Taste Award.

Can I eat fruit after my evening meal?

We don’t recommend doing this, as this will spike your blood sugar levels.  If you are really suffering sugar cravings, try herbal teas or hot water with fresh ginger.

What should I eat on day 7?

As your stomach will have shrunk, we don’t recommend going for a massive ‘binge’ or celebration meal, as also this will un-do the good you have done!  It is important not to overload the digestive system so you should eat small portions of healthy foods and avoid grain and sugars. 

Is a bone broth cleanse safe?

We are not qualified to give medical advice and if you have any concerns, you should speak to your GP before starting a bone broth cleanse, as well as if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, have diabetes/suffer from hyperglycemia or have a history of eating disorders.
