Make bone broth a part of
your fertility optimised diet.
Hi, I'm Charlotte, a Fertility Nutritionist. I created The Fertility Kitchen in 2015, following my own fertility struggles. My five year journey to conceive my two sons led me to completely transform my diet and lifestyle and change career from the fashion world to the nutrition world!
On my journey to learn how to optimise fertility through nutrition I came across bone broth and it has become an absolute go-to ingredient I recommend to all my clients.
Bone broth offers a source of nutrients that can otherwise be lacking in our diets. The bones, skin and connective tissue are rich in protein, gelatine, collagen, glycine and minerals. Bones contain more minerals per gram than any other body tissue and broth made from bones is full of these minerals as they leach into the liquid as it simmers.
Collagen and gelatine are rich sources of glycine which is essential to obtain from the diet during pregnancy. Glycine is a structural amino acid required for foetal DNA and collagen synthesis and to help the mother's body grow and adapt to pregnancy. Bone broth is one of the most reliable sources of glycine.
I love Take Stock Bone Broths because they're 100% natural, taste delicious and are store cupboard friendly
How does bone broth support fertility
Source of glycine and proline
Bone broth is a valuable source of proline and glycine, two important amino acids that are crucial for hormone regulation and detoxification. These amino acids enable the body to eliminate excess hormones, preventing imbalances such as estrogen dominance. This can cause problems with fertility such as PCOS and endometriosis. Consuming bone broth regularly can help to create an optimal internal environment for fertility by providing the body with an ample supply of vital amino acids.
Supports gut health
Bone broth can help to heal gut health issues which are closely connected to hormonal health. A leaky gut can prevent the absorption of essential nutrients and minerals required for hormone production. If you suffer from digestive problems such as bloating, IBS, or constipation, it is possible that you have hormonal issues. Consuming bone broth can help to address these issues and improve overall health.
Collagen-rich foods such as bone broth can have a positive impact on fertility by supporting the health of the reproductive organs and improving ovarian function. Collagen is a structural protein that makes up a large portion of the body's connective tissues, including the uterus and fallopian tubes. Adequate levels of collagen are necessary for the structural integrity of these reproductive organs, ensuring that they function properly and are capable of supporting a pregnancy.
I use bone broth daily in cooking, it adds depth of flavour and goodness to a range of recipes. I like to add a splash to curry, chilli and bolognese, and of course I use it to make soup.
